Basic income for trans* people

London Breed, the mayor of San Francisco has announced a program called Guaranteed Income for Transgender People (G.I.F.T.). In it, 55 low-income people who are trans* or non-binary will receive $1,200 for 18 months. People 18 and older who live in San Francisco and whose monthly income does not exceed $600 are eligible to apply. The background to the initiative is that 29 percent of trans* adults live in poverty. According to a 2015 survey, they are twice as likely to be unemployed and suffer homelessness more often compared to binary people.
