Supermarket produces bio natural gas from manure
The British supermarket chain Waitrose has taken a step towards sustainable agriculture and is producing bio natural gas to power tractors on its Leckford Estate farm in Hampshire. The manure from 500 cattle is collected and processed to produce biomethane, which is used to fuel the machinery and improve the farm's carbon footprint. A plant on the estate provides sustainable fuel, saving up to 1,300 tons of carbon emissions annually. This system was developed in collaboration with New Holland Tractors and clean-tech company Bennamann.
